One of my Hobby-Horses:
Lojban
The Logical Language

Veijo Vilva

Lojban, a constructed spoken language, has for a long time been one of my main intellectual interests, not always for the logicality but as a completely different vehicle for aesthetic expression. I became acquainted with it in early 1992 and was very enthusiastic about it from the very beginning. I founded the first Lojban website in 1994 and was also involved in polishing the grammar, left a couple of fingerprints on it and participated in checking various proposals at YACC level. Then Real Life intervened, and I couldn't anymore devote enough time to honing my Lojban skills and to the at times rather hectic and exhausting discussions on the Lojban discussion list, which discussions caused me many a sleepless night spent pondering intricacies of syntax and semantics, both of Lojban and of natural languages. Consequently, while still lurking on the Lojban list and intermittently thinking about some interesting Lojbanic problems, I acquired some far less taxing hobbies, like making ray-traced images (I had to give that up, alas, again for sleepless nights) and photography.

However, times do change, and so does my life. I'm retired now after working for 44 years as an IT specialist, more than 40 of those years intertwined with Animal Genetics & Co., and will have time and opportunity enough for my various Hobby-Horses. So, the time has come to brush up my Lojban and get the old brain ticking - in moderation, between long walks and sitting leasurely in the parks as befits an old man.
This page is a stub.

I'll add stuff later on, mainly some personal views concerning Lojban, that is,

as you can find out more about Lojban itself by visiting the official Lojban web site at www.lojban.org

As of October 2010, I'm Vice-President of The Logical Language Group, Inc.
(a non-profit organization meant to serve the needs of the Lojban community).
I'm also the LLG contact person for the Scandinavian Countries and Finland.
