Canon EOS 350D with VPK Rapid Rectilinear at f/7.7

For use on an M42 macro bellows, I had to glue the lens assembly to the back of an extension
tube due to the short focal length. The shutter was just narrow enough to fit inside the bellows.
With the bellows, the focusing range is from 1:1 to infinity. The tube forms a short lens hood.

The Effect of the Background Distance relative to the Focus Distance

Experiments with the scene 8265 (below)
  • left: the background is relatively near, a very prominent bright edge
  • middle: the background is at an optimal distance, a Gaussian bokeh
  • right: the background is very far, the bokeh tends towards a neutral one

Some Normal Scenes

This Rapid Rectilinear isn't very suited for general photography on a 350D being rather soft and hard to focus even wide open at f/7.7. However, sometimes the softness augments the atmosphere.
